No Kims, Got Gaos

Venue: Ryan's Spot
Time: 3.30pm - 6.30pm
Bait: Live & Dead Prawns
Rig: Floater & Split Shot
Weather: Fair
Date: 27 June 2011(Mon)

Bought 300 grams of live prawns and proceed to Ryan's spot.
Mission for the day - Kim Ba Loks.

Rigged a floater with a giant live prawn from Sheng Siong. Out it went into the middle of the spot. Float was flowing with the incoming tide towards my direction when it slowly sank and stay 3/4 submerged under the surface.

It stayed there for a good one minute before I decided to check it out. Reeled in my line and saw this evil-looking fella!

Stonefish!

It was pretty fat and heavy! Cut the leader and back it went into the sea.....

Sheng Siong live prawns are not very lasting. It was less than 2 hours into the session and I am only left with 1 or 2 prawns still kicking alive.

Took one dead prawn and started spinning when I felt the familiar nibbling on the other end.
This baby grouper was no match to my banana rod at all.

It was released back into the sea as it was too small to be packed away.

Continued spinning my leftover dead prawn when I hit again!
This time round the fight was slighty stronger but still it was landed in 10 secs?

A slightly bigger grouper

I am sorry but I decided to pack this one home for my dinner.

Mission failed as I did not managed to land any Kims but I found a way to get the Gaos!

Massacre

Venue: Pasir Ris Skill Pond
Time: 8.30pm - 11.30pm
Bait: Dead Prawns
Rig: Pole Fishing
Weather: Fair
Date: 3rd June 2011(Fri)

As usual, a few sms exchange and we were on our way to our fishing spot.
We are back to the pole pond!

Pay up and the session starts!
There were 2 groups of 'polers' when we reached. One consists of a family and another is a group of young men.

No baskets was in the water yet = No one landed anything yet.

Casted my first prawn cube out and saw the line moving. Paused for a moment and WHACK!!!!
ZZZZZzzzzzzzZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, the line screamed!
Took less than a min and the first fishy was landed. After the first kim cheow was landed, all hell break loose!

Me and Qw took turns landing fish after fish in the next 25 mins. 30 mins into our session, we got 6 lively kim cheow trashing in the basket!

Then came the bad news, Qw sprained his ankle and he was out...
Was considering whether to go home since he seemed badly hurt but he told me to carry on..

Foul hooked 2 kim cheows in the 2nd hour and in the 3rd hour I hit a GAO! Finished the session with 1 last piece of kim cheow before we called it a day.

Certainly not our best as Qw only fished for less than an hour while I lost quite a few. However, it was certainly one our better session.

Perfect Ten

Lousy day...

Venue: Pasir Ris Skill Pond
Time: 2pm - 5pm
Bait: Dead Prawns
Rig: Pole Fishing
Weather: Cloudy
Date: 29th May 2011(Sun)

Not in the great mood to fish. Felt thirsty and tired throughout the whole session.

Started off with 3 fishes in the first hour and all the way.

Was actually waiting for time up. Totally no mood.

1st attempt at Pole Fishing

Venue: Pasir Ris Skill Pond
Time: 7.30pm - 10.30pm
Bait: Dead Prawns
Rig: Pole Fishing
Weather: Fair
Date: 9th April 2011(Sat)

Have been reading alot of 'Power' CRs on FishingKaki. Therefore decided to go down on Sat night to have a try.

I got a packet of Kelong Sotong as advise by the uncle there and started fishing. I got no hits or takes at all for the 1st hour. Decided to change to Dead Prawns instead but still no bites.

Was thinking what wrong when I finally feel a pull in the 2nd hour! Set the hook and slowly play with the bugger.

I waited so long for it and I won't want to lose my first fish. Took me 5 mins and I still couldn't land it. Was my first time fishing there and I was afraid the leader might give way if I try to yank it out of the water.

It was finally landed when one uncle help me to pull the leader out of the water. My first fishy on Pole! 800gm Kim Cheow!!!

After my first fishy, all hell break loose!! It was almost lo jiak lo jiak...
I got many takes but all end up bursting or throwing of hook. Sigh.

It was until the last hour when I finally got hold of the technique and landed 2 more Kim Cheow.

Overall a very fun experience. Will be back!!!

The starting was very slow. There was hardly any bites in the first few spots.
Raju was very hardworking thou, changing spot again and again trying to get the right spot.

The silence was finally broke at 11am! Was holding onto my trusty banana rod bouncing the sinker along the seabed concentrating for any bites when I felt some nibbles on the other end.

Paused for a sec, nibbles get stronger and Strike!!! Fish ON!

Slowly pumped and reeled it in... This fishy made a few dashes several times making my reel screaming in pain. Took me 4-5 mins before it came up to the surface!

My First Chao Xi est ard 1kg

It my First wild Fish for 2011 and my First Chao Xi. Was very happy and relieved that I managed to land it. My hand was actually shivering after the fight.....

We moved on to another spot after this catch but still there wasn't any fishy ard...

Raju decided to bring us to a spot that need at least a size 10 sinker to touch bottom.

The current was very strong and I was combining a size 4 and a size 8 sinker in order to touch bottom.

Oliver made his first cast and immediately got a strong bite!
A 2kg + Ang Kuay!

CK also got a bite!

A 1kg + Ang Zho

As the sea is pretty rough, we have 2 merlions onboard too..

Could not remember exactly which fish was landed first and at which spot.
But we move on to a few other spots and landed a few other fishes.

Oliver managed to land a 1kg + Deformed Grouper that ermm...look pretty disgusting..

Boatman say the deformed part could have been bitten off or injured and it growing back.

Ryan with his catches, 800 grams Parrot and 1kg + Kaci

I landed my First Mouse Grouper too! It was said to be a very very rare catch. A delicacy especially in Hong Kong. Worth at least SGD 80 for a dead one & SGD 150 for a live one!!!

Raju even took out his personal camera to take a picture. Guess my face going to be in his album. Haha!

Everyone wanted a shot with this rare prized catch - Mouse Grouper!

Managed to land a Ang Zho at the last 2nd spot

Ah Seng landed at the last spot by CK

Total Catch of the Day. (Excluding many Johnsons which we released)

CK: 2 Ang Zho & 1 Ah Seng
Oliver: 1 Ang Kuay & 1 Grouper
Ryan: 1 Kaci & 1 Parrot
Taleb: 1 Blue Hind Grouper
