A Boat Trip Using Dead Prawns

Venue: Southern Islands
Time: 9am - 5.30pm
Bait: 1kg "Live" Prawns (Sheng Siong)
Rig: Long Snood Bottom Feeder
Weather: Cloudy
Boat: Ah Eng's Boat
Date: 17 Feb 2010 (Lunar 4th) Wed
Kakis: Ryan, Rick, Yifa and Me

To be frank even before boarding the boat, I already felt like going home.

Everything is perfect but.............

1)Ah Eng's Boat - One of the popular boat with proven catch results
2)Weather -Slight drizzling in the noon but cloudy most of time
3)Kakis - Friendly and nice
4)Date - Lunar 4th, one of the better days for offshore fishing

When everything is so perfect who would expect the pump to turn faulty. With a pail of 1 kg of live prawns without a pump, 95% of the live prawns decided to hand in their IC even before we boarded the boat.

Needless to say, catches was real bad except for one 2-3 kg grouper.

On the way to our first spot

Went to top up diesel before we proceed......

Ah Eng's boat was one of the best boat I ever went with. Spacious and clean. It came with a kitchen and a toilet.

Clean toilet

The back of the boat was really spacious. With just four of us, it was really comfortable.

Ah Eng was very hardworking. We kept changing spots but there was not much bites. Most likely due to the bait we were using. Dead Prawns.........

Only decent catches worth mentioning was 2 groupers and 1 snapper.

Ryan managed to get quite a no of small fishes using small hook.

Some of the small fishes.

Snapper and Squirrel by Ryan

The 2-3kg grouper inside the live well. Look at its FAT stomach!!!

Total Catches Of The Day (A couple of small fishes was released thus not in the picture)
Yifa - 1 est 2-3 kg grouper
Ryan - Most of the small fishes and 1 est 800 grams snapper
Ah Eng - 1 table size grouper
Me - 1 'fake' grouper and 1 unknown fish

Nice Kakis

Rick and Yifa with the groupers

Me with the grouper (Apologies for the ugly pose. Haha!)

Finally, my catches...
