Fishing in HongKong

Weather: Freaking Hot

Ever since I started fishing actively 2-3 yrs back, I will try to search for fishing places whenever I travel.
This time round I managed to wet my lines in one of the most busiest city in the world, HongKong.

Fishing in HK is relatively new to me. Therefore, it was quite a challenge to plan this fishing trip.
After gathering some info here and there, I decided to pay a visit to one of the saltwater pond at 元朗 流浮山 下白泥村

Day 1

Woke up at ard 7.30am and proceed to buy our breakfast.

We board our train at Jordan MTR and have to travel for ard 40 mins to Tin Shui Wai station.

We took a cab to our destination from Tin Shui Wai Station.

Cost ard HK 60~ SGD 12, another 15 mins ride.

Rules and Regulations

The owner was busy washing and clearing tonnes of bait fishes near the pond. When she saw us, she recommend us a hotspot.

Without any hesitation, I proceed to setup my tackles.

Bought one big bag of bait fishes from her at only HK 5~ SGD 1! Super Cheap!!!

Once done with my setup, I casted in the first baitfish at ard 9.30 am and BAMMM!!!

Wow that was fast......! Cx grabbed the rod and line started peeling out in a fast and steady manner. She was struggling as more than 10 metres of line had already been stripped out. I quickly took over but the line snapped...

Rebait, Cast and Bammmm!!!! Fish ON again!! And we lost the fish again due to snapping of the line....

We had ard 2-3 line snapping cases before I finally landed my first fish at 10am!

Took me quite a while before it was landed. It was bigger than my first fishy. It a pity that I actually forgot to weight it.Est at least 4kg!!!

After 1 hour of feeding frenzy....bites started to slow down. Nevertheless, bites were still coming in consistently.

We got a dry spell from 2pm -4pm. Therefore we proceed to have our lunch.

Instead of taking a cab back to the MTR, we went to catch a minibus.

There is another pond just opposite call 'Hao Jie' fishing pond. Some pics of the pond while waiting for the minibus.

Day 2

We went back fishing on friday. This time round we reached earlier at ard 9.15am. We were hoping to catch the feeding frenzy and leave earlier.

However our high expectations were landed in huge disappointment.

There was no frenzy. Bites were coming in so much slower. We paid for 2 rods instead of 1 rod to increase our chances.

It was a strong fight. Line was peeling fast and I had to keep pumping to gain back my lines. It took me 5-7 mins before the bugger finally surrender.

In conclusion

Day 1: 26 fishes with 1 rod

Day 2: 13 fishes with 2 rods

Will definitely be back if I shall visit HK again.....

As usual, met up at Tanah Merah Mrt. Shared a cab down to Changi Village for a quick breakfast, bought live prawns and ice and off we go.....

Ah Chong told us he need to top up diesel for his boat first.

Weather dun seem to be in our favour as dark clouds were spotted everywhere. Nevertheless, we kept our fingers crossed

Not wasting anytime, quickly rig up the live prawns and off goes my first cast. I put my rod into the rod holder and started exploring with my new phone 6700 Classic.

Wanted to try out the camera when I heard Serene saying dunno whose rod was bending. Thinking that she was just being noob and most probably it was due to the current, I did not really care.

It was only when Joel and Ah Chong told me then I turned ard and looked at my rod. Indeed I saw my rod gave a few tugs!

Immediately put my phone down, grabbed my rod and gave a strike! By then, my line was already pulled all the way to the front of the boat. Even Ah Chong's handline was tangled together with my mainline.

Managed to pump it back to my side and as it started to surface, I saw a familiar silver mirror...
At first I thought it was Chermin but when it finally surfaced, it was a Queenie!!!

Morale was high as it was only the beginning and I had landed a decent size fish already. However we were very wrong.

We were not registering any bites after my first catch. We were moving from spot to spot but result was still the same.

Getting abit tired and since the fishes were not biting, we proceed to have our lunch.

It was until 1.55pm when I finally felt a very strong tug on my rod. Without any hesitation, I gave a strike and the game was ON!

Whatever that was on the other end of the line is definitely a good fighter. It kept dashing left to right taking abit of my 20 pounds braided line out.

It took me 2-3 mins when I finally landed this fighter.

Everything quiet down again after this catch. On and off, we managed to get small nibbles but sadly no fishes were landed.

At ard 4pm plus, I managed to land this puffer fish with peeled dead prawns.


It was released unharmed back to the sea.

At ard 5pm, Ah Chong finally landed something.......Miss Squidy


Time passed pretty fast and soon it 6pm.

Venue: East Coast

Met Qw up at ard 10am and off we went to East Coast for fishing. We were fishing beside the water sport spot.

Catches as usual were not very good. Qw landed 2 baby eels while I finally managed to break my dry spell.

Nothing big, just a small baby shark. It was released back to the deep blue sea.

We were fishing halfway when we were invaded by countless of wind surfers.


No way we could continue to fish there as we were unable to cast at all. Therefore we moved further up to another breakwater.

No fishes were caught there and we decided to call it a day at ard 5.30pm.

The Dry Spell Continues...........

Date: 25th July 2009 (Sat)
Venue: Pulau Ubin
Weather: Fair

Planned this trip few weeks back. As usual, we were filled with super high hopes on landing some fishes.

Met up with Joel and Irfan ard 9.30pm at Changi Village. Took our breakfast, bought our baits and off we go~

Reached the jetty ard 10.30pm. Rented our bicycles and headed for our first spot.

This spot looked pretty quiet. Was abt to go off when we spotted many surface actions.
Decided to give it a try and off we started casting our hopes into the water.

It was pretty quiet until Joel landed the ONLY fish of the day.

Ya, your eyes did not played any tricks on you. We got only 1 pathetic fish for this trip....

Worst still, we were fishing halfway when we were greeted by this.....

Our spot was invaded by canoes! Cant they see we were fishing there?
They were having so much fun causing a big commotion. Loud noise, big splashes, disturbing the water......
All the fishes would have been spooked. Sigh...
Anyway they were trying to go thru underneath the bridge to the other side.

Look at this 2 jokers. They were stuck! LOL!

After all the commotion they caused for nearly 1 hour. There no way we could cont fishing there. All the surface actions were gone..

Therefore we decided to made our way to our 2nd spot

Met up with Yasin and his gf there.

There were also another group of orange young boys fishing beside us.

This spot looked pretty decent and potential. However looks can be deceiving. We hardly got any bites at all.

Pretty frustrated. I armed myself with a storm rubber lure and went to this spot to do some luring.

After 1/2 hr of non stop casting, I decided to give up...

Went back to join them for the waiting game.

Bells were ringing on and off but there were no hookups until Joel landed this...
