Fishing Trip On 20/3/08

Venue: Punggol Jetty
Time: 9.30pm-12.30am
Baits: Dead Prawns
Rig: Apollo
Weather: Cool and nice

This was my first time to punggol jetty.
Met my friend at Tbp ntuc. Brought 250 grams of dead prawn and off we go.
Reach ard 9pm. Very dark. Took some time to setup my 2 rods as not used to fishing in the night.

One rod for small fish and one rod for biggies!
Anyway after casting the baits into the dark water…the WAITING GAME start.
Rebait for around three times and we were basically chatting as there was not a single tug or ringing of the bell.

Last rebait is at 12am. Last try and we will leave ard 12.30am. But it still the same. Nothing happen not even a small ikan bilis.

12.30am reached and we decide to go home. As i am reeling back my 2nd rod i feel something at the other end. When i finally reel up, i saw a small mini cat fish ard the size of my palm.

A small reward at last. Nth big but better than nothing right. Haha.
Took 2 pic and it was released safety back to the sea.

My first fish!!!(18/11/07) ~TCX~

Haha.. this was the day I caught my first fish…. and it was the biggest among all the other fishes he caught… hahaha…

It was a crowded day, as the management was changed and the catch rate was good. As usual,I arrived later (around 9.15am) and delivered breakfast to him. While eating, we could see lots of catches… and they were big… However, we were the only few using "big, fat, red, float". All the others were using tossing with fake baits.

Not long after that, we noticed that one of our float diappeared… So he quicky reel in the loose line, and seeing that the line is now tight, he striked and yes, he got it! He passed the rod to me immediately (cos he wanted to fulfill his promise of letting me experience fish on hook).

Panickly, I held on the rod and started to reel the fish in. Fishing indeed is not easily. I was told not to reel in the fish all the way but ‘play’ with the fish. Let it swim back, then reel in a bit, let it struggle a while, then reel in a bit again… Hehe.. I tot only waiting for fish to bite requires patience. Actually reeling it back also needs patience. If I force it to come ashore all the way, the line might snap off and my fish will be gone…

It was fun, to reel the fish back. But as that was my first time, I keep thinking that the fish have already released the hook by itself and the pressure tt I felt in my rod is just because of the current, or because my hook is stucked in the rocks… So he asked me whether the fish is still there and I said I donno. I think no more… ;’(

He took back the rod and gave a final reel in and yes…. it was still there and it was big…. We brought the fish ashore and it is a very pretty long fish with nice shiny scales… Haha.. this was how my first fish came about!

While waiting for another catch, I saw some kids using handline and in seconds, they caught one fish after another. I went over to the little boy and asked him his "technique". He gladly showed me his secret weapon-a very tiny hook. After that, I used this tiny hook to fish and shortly after I put my handline in the water, a small fish got hooked! Haha.. to be exact, this is my real first fish. I handled everything alone. And this fish is less than 10cm. ;p I’m glad I’ve finally caught my own fish, thou it cant be eaten and only kids are entertained by it. Nvm I’m satisfied liao… keke…

Until noon, it remained silent. We decided to move to another location. Five minutes after we threw our float in, one float disappeared! He quickly striked and hes got it! He immediately passed to me and I helped to reel the fish in… its a Kim Bak Lor. (It was a wise decision that we changed our spot!!)

Around 3pm, I’ve decided to go for a stroll at the shopping centre, and buy lunch. When I came back, it was raining soooo heavily. We seeked shelter next to the tackle shop, and ate Japanese da bao food there. Thou we have to stop our fishing, it was quite a good experience… to sit on the newspaper, watching people fishing in the raining.

The rain continued for more than 1 hour. We decided to go back. He brought the fishes back to scale and passed to me the very next day. Until then I realised that the fishes were soooo heavy!!! Had a hard time bringing them back. (He had a even hard time scaling and doing operation on the fish) Keke…

The fishes lasted for 2 weeks and 3 dishes were created from them. Namely steamed seabass, curry fish and salty bean fish.. keke….

P/S: Oh yah… I must give credit to the fisherman. To be exact, the 2 fishes caught belonged to him… I just assisted reeling in a bit… keke… My first fish is the small fish… Cute ne…

My first offshore trip - 4/11/07 (Sun)

Time: 9.30am - 6pm
Venue: Changi Offshore
Baits: Live Prawns
Weather: Sunny
Rig: Apollo

This is my first offshore trip.
Met up at the Tanah Merah Yatch Club at ard 9am..Board the boat at ard 9.30am.
Total including me 11kakis.

Went there with high hopes, excitement as it is my first time.
When the boat reach our first destination.Everyone start to wet their lines. Me and my friends went to the front as it too squeezy behind.

It amazing to fish in the middle of the sea.No casting required. And your mind get you excited as you nv know what u will get at the other end of the line.

But as the clock ticks by..everyone start to feel demoralise.
No one got any fish except i heard at the other end of the boat someone got a small kuning her. Not quite sure what isit..but shld be a bait fish.Nothing to be too happy abt.
Jus as everyone is singing song talking cock..we heard a shout from the back of the boat. The other grp got one BIG FAT catfish. Estimate weight at least 1.8kg

I looked at my watch it is ard 12pm already. 3 hrs passed with only one catch. But well better than nothing. At least it bring our morale up alittle bit.LOL.
Back to the staring game again.Boat quite of rocky.Got a few kaki not feeling well. Some even puke.Hai.Keep changing locations but no catch.

Finally we reach another location at ard 2pm.Was feeling abit hungry and tired already as i nv slept the whole night plus havent take my lunch.Decided to stop my fishing awhile and take my lunch first when i suddenly feel a strong TUG on my rod.My first instinct tells me it a FISH! but i scare High expectations= High dissappointment. Therefore i start to reel in slowly.Confirm first. When i feel some struggling at the other end i confirm it a FISH!

Everyone is coming over to see now.The boatman come over and told me it a big fish.It make me more motivated to land the fish.

It a good fight that last abt 5 mins.It first dash under the boat but i manage to guide it back to the front but it still keep dashing under the boat. My rod is forming a very ugly bend. Told myself to keep calm and finally the fish surface. It a Diamond Trevally aka Chermin.
One kaki scoop it up with a net and den it photo session haha.
Estimate at least 2kg.

With this Diamond beaming in the icebox, everyone morale is up now especially me haha.
But well it another 2 hrs of fishless catch.sigh.~

I guess i am lucky because at abt 4pm we hit a ACK Frenzy!
And i was the first to hit one first.Feel a tug again .Not much fight this time .3-4 mins later fish surface and it a 1kg plus Ack.
Photo Session again.
estimate ard 1kg

Everyone must be thinking why i so lucky especially it my first time.haha.
But then they also start getting fish. All the same species ACk.
The boatman got one too with a handline.
As i know there are a shoal of ACk,i quickly retied my rig and cast it out.I feel a take within one min but i lost it due to my anyhow tied rig sigh~~

One kaki of mine at this point also shouted he got a fish too. As he is first time i help him fight the fish.
It a Ack too.

The whole frenzy last abt 15-20 mins den everything die down
After abt one hour later ard 6pm.Due to strong winds. The boat man suggested to go back.
Well this is the CR for the Whole Trip.

Not very gd.But to me it a very gd experience.
Will definitely be back!

Our first trip to PRPP - 11/8/07

It was a Saturday. An exceptional day whereby he need not go for class.

Thus, we decided to go fishing WITHOUT FAIL - since he is craving so long for this free day to fish! n_n
The weather was great for fishing! Thou too hot for me. But got used to it, and I’ve been becoming darker and darker since I was attracted to the new sport activity. ;p
More experienced in fishing trips, I went almost empty handed (he brought everything) and we went to the ‘pond for professional and rich people’ - Pasir Ris Pro Pond (PRPP).

This pond was the first commercial pond I have ever been to - due to the discovery of this pond accidentally on one of his tuition trip to Pasir Ris. To my surprise, the catch rates at PRPP were very good. I have never seen such big and alive fishes in my entire 25 years of life!

Therefore, due to not having enough time to spend at fishing ponds, we have decided to give this pond a try for 3 hours at a quite expensive cost. (Anyway, it is the joy of fishing that matters!)
After buying the "going-to-die" live prawns, we proceeded to the PRPP. The time was 15:45. There was quite a bit of crowd. Especially at the "good hiddening locations for fishes." As usual, our Mr. Cool guy chose an isolated shethered place. Isolated is for him to fish - no need to worry about crossing people’s line and sheltered place is for me… keke…

It was quiet at the pond. So he took his own sweet time to tie the hooks and floats. While observing the "quietness" of the pond, we saw 2 caucasians uncles joining in the fishing, sitting beside us. Din know that this place attracts non-Singaporeans as well. It was until we saw 2 person getting the fishes at almost to same time - we knew that this was the perfect time to throw our rods in too!

Our fishing game started at 16:35. We waited and waited… and waited and waited. There were some movements around us… on our left, on our right but not us! A bit worrying and the time passed faster than we hoped, but consoled ourselves that the 2 caucasians who joined in earlier than us did not get anything too. Keke.

Suddenly, he discovered a big fish swimming at 3cm/min by the side of the pond. He playfully put the live prawn right in front of the fish. But the "clever" fish ignored the bait and continued his leisure swimming. I decided to play my own fishing without having to pay - I quicky took one of the dead prawn’s tail and played handline. But I started to become scared when the fish was eyeing my bait! Cos if it really eats my bait, I’ll will throw away my line! Cos I dun dare to catch it! Keke… Thus in such an ironic situation - I was hoping the fish not to eat my bait, I’ve decided to give up on playing handline :p

We waited and waited till we heard the whistle - signal for the fish release time! It was at 18:00! We only had one and a half hour left! He quickily changed into a fresh, live prawn as we knew that is this the only hope for us! I told him that from now on, we must observe who is the lucky one - to get the first fish that was just released.

At 15 mins later, our float disappeared! Although excited, but we remained calm to make sure that the fish did not "feel" us and will enjoy swallowing the bait peacefully. So seeing our float disappearing for around 5 seconds and our line straightened, he gave the rod a STRIKE! Yes! He got it!

So the lucky one were us! Hehe… We got the first fish from the 18:00 release time! Being relatively experienced, he easily settled the fish and changed a new hook with prawn and quickily threw it into the same area where we got our first fish! This was the pic of the first fish, using my camera ;D

Seeing that there were only 2 prawns left and that we have more that one hour to go, I went to get another batch of new live prawns. I returned to the pond quickily as I knew that this was the prime time. He changed his bait to this new batch of very lively and jumping prawns and threw it into the pond. Around 18:35, our float disappered again! Waiting for the fish to swallow, he slowly tighten the line and STRIKE! He got it again! He tactfully reeled in the fish and this time round, I got ready my video recording mode and captured this moment! This fish was the same species as the first! But slightly bigger in size. 8p

After these 2 catches, he promised to let me play the 3rd one. Our agreement was that he will strike for me and I can reel in the fish. So I waited for my turn to play. But sadly, this opportunity did not come… We had 4 misses in a row. One was that the fish only ate the prawn’s head, one was due to him moving the rod and the fish noticed it. Another was cos he striked too fast and the fish felt it, and lastly which was the most heartpain miss…

This was what happened: I was holding on to the rod, waiting and talking to him. Suddenly, my float disappeared! I told him and he took over the rod but the fish swam towards the direction of other fishermen… our lines were entangled! The funny thing was that these fishermen were in their teens and they tot they had fishes. So they striked and our lines got entangled even more! While trying to get the tangles off 3 rods, the fish managed to get away after some strong struggles… so sad. I did not have the last opportunity to play…

Anyway, 19:35. Times up. 3 hours is really short but to be honest, we were quite satisfied with our catch result. This was because there were even some fishermen with zero catches. One of them was the calm caucasian uncle. Keke… So he promised to let me play more on the next trip and I’m looking forward to it. ~_~

The fish is served today at my lunch table. The chef was my mum. Method of cooking was steaming, which is the best method to enjoy a fish freshness. One word to describe it - Oishii.
